On October 8, the 19th edition of the Grands Prix du Design took place, an interdisciplinary design and architecture competition that annually recognizes outstanding projects from around the world.

Selected by an international jury of renowned design professionals, submitted projects are evaluated according to rigorous criteria, including aesthetics, form and function, creativity and innovation, the designers’ expertise, the integration of technology, social responsibility, and the project’s ability to surprise.

VAD was named Grand Laureate for Aux pieds des arbres in the Office: Living Spaces — Café & Dining category, recognizing the team’s approach to commercial interior design and the creation of engaging workplace environments.

The project involved transforming a space with an outdated design and layout, more than 20 years old, into a contemporary environment that supports connection, creativity, and well-being. Rather than serving simply as a break room, the space was designed to give employees a place to step away from their daily routines, connect with colleagues, and recharge throughout the day.

Located next to a large atrium with striking steel columns, the project also needed to complement the building’s distinctive architecture while creating its own identity.

Guided by a bold, human-centered vision, VAD developed a concept inspired by a forest, where curved forms, wood, and lush greenery create a welcoming and soothing environment. Lighting plays a key role: stretched fabric panels and points of light evoke sunlight filtering through the trees, while suspended light fixtures recall fireflies, giving the space a warm, intimate, and vibrant atmosphere.

Designed to bring people closer to each other and to nature, this woodland-inspired space offers a place to gather, unwind, and recharge throughout the day. It features a variety of spaces for people to connect, from bright, open areas with large communal tables to more intimate corners with curved banquettes, cozy nooks, and small tables that invite conversation.

Congratulations to Patricia Loyer, Kevin Guernon, Marc Archambault, and Sara Daigneault on this wonderful achievement, as well as to everyone on the team who contributed to the project along the way. Thank you to our client for their trust!

A proud moment for the VAD!
