Axium Infrastructure is an independent investment management firm focused on sustainable and structural infrastructure projects. Drawing on the firm’s mission, VAD has developed precise, high-performance, and cohesive spaces that mirror their expertise and measured approach.
The concept is based on a simple idea: translating the notions of stability, precision, and continuity into interior design. The layout thus becomes an architectural interpretation of the principles that define Axium.
The resulting ambiance is sober, bright, and warm. The environment inspires confidence and serenity, where every element finds its place without excess or clutter. This atmosphere is built on a composition guided by linearity: the repetition of frames, the verticality of acoustic panels, and the alignment of furniture create a rhythm that naturally structures the space.
The color palette is rooted in urban tones. Greige and mineral shades provide a neutral, elegant base, while accents of terracotta, burgundy, and mint green introduce depth and dynamism. Black is used to frame the whole and anchor the composition.
The project’s materiality highlights white oak, concrete, felt, and metallic accents. The wood, featured in various forms, brings warmth and continuity, while the concrete adds a contemporary touch. Felt enriches the composition through its texture, and the metallic details showcase the precision of the design. These design choices are not purely aesthetic; they are performative. Acoustic panels integrated into the offices and phone booths transform spaces often considered secondary into rich, expressive environments. Lighting then extends this intent: concealed grazing light accentuates the vertical rhythm and highlights the distinct relief of the surfaces.
The cafeteria is treated as a central, unifying element. Designed as a versatile space, it accommodates daily meals, happy hours, internal events, and video conferences alike. A key client requirement was to include a central area that fosters informal exchange. This vision took shape through an oversized island, a social anchor reflecting the firm’s collaborative culture. The constraint of its significant length was transformed into an opportunity: a custom metallic strip intentionally highlights the seam between the stone slabs. This detail, typically concealed, becomes a deliberate design statement and an integral part of the space’s identity.
If architecture structures the space, art gives it a voice. The selection of contemporary works, primarily by local artists, creates a dialogue between the interior environment and the Montreal context. Some pieces echo the infrastructure projects financed by Axium, notably the Port of Montreal, weaving a direct link to the firm’s field of expertise. Others, such as a canvas by a centenarian artist, embody depth, memory, and humanity. These colorful interventions bring warmth and vitality, balancing the architectural rigor of the whole.
The project gives form to Axium’s values through a clear, functional, and living environment. The rigor of the composition, acoustic performance, precision of detail, and versatility of the spaces are not isolated elements, but components of a cohesive whole. The cafeteria brings people together, the workspaces support concentration, the art humanizes the setting, and the light reveals the materials. Each intervention from technical detail to overall composition contributes to a mastered environment, designed to endure and to unite. The layout thus reflects an organization that invests for the long term, with method and intention, while making genuine room for interaction and culture.
